If you don’t know who Stacey Abrams is, you will soon because she just won the primary election in Georgia to run for state governor against Stacey Evans. If Abrams is elected in November, she will become the first ever black woman to hold the title of governor.
Abrams is a graduate from Spelman College, Yale Law School and the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas. She has also worked as a tax attorney in Atlanta, co-founded a financial services firm and created a program to register thousands of voters, focusing on voters of color and young people. Abrams’ greatness doesn’t stop there, she’s also a successful author of eight romantic suspense novels which have been published under the name Selena Montgomery and has a book coming out next month, Minority Leader: How to Lead from the Outside and Make Real Change under her own name.

Stacey Abrams had been considering running for major public office in Georgia since 2007, when she joined the state legislature, but soon realized "that the scale of the issues and the capacity to really address poverty and the attendant issues could only be done through the role of governor," she told The New Yorker. Abram's website states that she "has a vision for Georgia where equality fosters prosperity and where everyone has the opportunity to succeed — not just survive."
With her belief in Georgia’s ability to prosper, Abrams candidacy seems very promising. With the support of 75% (yes, seventy-five) of voters, backing from Hillary Clinton and even some celebrities like Rashida Jones and Tracee Ellis Ross, the possibility of having a female, black governor seems very likely. Supporters took to twitter to voice how amazing Abrams is and requested that everyone bring the same energy we had in 2008 to get President Obama elected:
