It’s a happy Barbie Day to all who celebrate. The long-awaited Barbie Movie starring Margot Robie and Issa Rae had its premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday. The film which has already received a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes is set to release July 21. It has been garnering excitement over its star-studded film and promising storyline. The film also had a soundtrack featuring songs from top artists including Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, Lizzo, and PinkPantheress.
On Sunday, the film’s cast took to the pink carpet in grand style. They all gave their individual interpretations of Barbie and looked stunning while at it. Here are some of our favoiurte looks from Black women at the Barbie movie premiere.
Nicki Minaj
Rapper Nicki Minaj wore a silver two-piece outfit with a high slit to the film’s premiere. In true Barbie fashion, Minaj rocked a long, bleach blonde wig as part of her ensemble. She finished off her look with sparse, natural make-up enhanced by sharp eyeliner and pink gloss.
Issa Rae
Actor Issa Rae wore Barbie’s signature pink for her pink carpet look. The “Insecure” creator rocked a long, sleeveless pink gown featuring a playful bow and a modest train. Rae wore her hair slicked back in a ponytail and completed her look with a pink clutch purse.
H.E.R
Grammy-award-winning singer H.E.R brought all the sparkle to the Barbie Pink carpet. She wore a short, gem encrusted gown with her signature loose curls fanning her face. H.E.R. finished off her look with blush pink pumps and a blue purse.
Alexandra Shipp
Actress Alexandra Shipp, who plays a writer Barbie in the upcoming film, took a subversive turn with her look. She wore a deconstructed gown with an extended bodice lined with dangling silver crystals. She wore her hair in an up-do and finished the look off with minimal accessories.
Karrueche Tran
Actress Karrueche Tran looked sunny in a yellow two-piece set, featuring a bra top and long, form-fitting skirt. Tran finished her look off with large bangles on both wrists, dangling earrings and slicked-back short hair.
