Halle Bailey stays out of the way, stays in her lane and continues to flourish. Since indefinitely ending their singing duo Halle and her sister Chloe have individually had many wins. Now, Halle can add the cover of British Vogue to her list of accomplishments.

The singer-turned-actress is gearing up for her big screen debut in Disney’s love action remake of “The Little Mermaid.” A role, she tells Vogue, that she never thought she’d be playing.

“The version of Ariel in my head was the one we all know and love: pale skin and bright red hair. She didn’t look like me,” she recalled in the Vogue interview.

Still, the movie’s director, Rob Marshall tells the magazine that he knew she was the one for the role. Saying that she was the first to audition to play Ariel, and after that “ the bar had already been set. And no one ever surpassed that bar.”

She says that she gets emotional thinking about how many little Black girls she inspires by giving them that representation as a Black Ariel.

“Even just thinking about it makes me emotional…because I still feel like that inside. I feel like that five-year-old. And it made me so filled with love that they know they’re beautiful and that they can be princesses too,” Bailey told Vogue.

Halle Bailey’s Love Life

Bailey also opens up about her relationship with rapper DDG. The two have been making consistent headlines as fans speculate about a possible breakup based on online narratives. Although she is a celebrity in the public eye, she says that she wishes she could experience her first love in private.

“Experiencing deep love for the first time in my life is something I feel has opened a whole new world for me creatively,” she said of the relationship. “There’s a lot of eyes on me now, especially with what’s to come. And sometimes I wish I didn’t have so many eyes on me, especially experiencing something like this for the first time.”

She doesn’t address the rumors but tastefully asks fans to let her live her love life in private. Tactics similar to her mentor, Beyoncé.

Working with Beyoncé

In the interview, Bailey admits that she is working on a new solo album. When she needs some creative help, she calls her sister for advice as well as Beyoncé.

“I just played her a lot of my songs and she was really overjoyed for me. It’s really cool to have somebody as established and talented as she is give you confirmation that the art you’re creating matters,” Bailey told Vogue. “She won’t outright be like, ‘This is what I think you should do.’ She’s very open that way. And to have that since we were 15 is something I do not take for granted.”
