The film also reminded its audience of Black people’s ability to persevere and overcome. Similarly, which she mentioned in her book, Whoopi endured the loss of her brother, mother and struggled with addiction. In 2016, she expanded her ventures and launched a joint cannabis company with Maya Elisabeth called “Whoopi & Maya.”

Maya is the founder of her own cannabis company called OM. Together the businesswoman sold edible drops, body balms, cacao and bath salts. Four years later, the brand would close their doors due to an unsolved dispute between the co-owners. Strong opinions have come in the way of progress with colleagues in other instances i.e. with multiple hosts on “The View.”

Still, Whoopi’s presence remains among the show cast as does her name in the history of Hollywood and in Black history.
